Our History

It all started with our brother Pablo

Our little brother Pablo, who has Down syndrome, inspired the creation of Pictalk. Pablo is non-verbal and communicates using pictograms. Although his speech therapist had set up a binder of physical pictograms, it was cumbersome. Therefore, we decided to develop a digital solution to have it directly on his phone.

Our mission

Our mission is to help individuals with cognitive disabilities, such as autism (AAC) or Down syndrome, to become more independent. We believe that the inclusion of people with neurodevelopmental disorders is an asset to society.

• 2020

  Start of development

  The pandemic ironically gave us more time and allowed us to come together as a family. We became aware of Pablo's issues.

• 2021

  Winner of the "Passion Boosts" from the INSA Lyon foundation

  First award from Pictalk. The prize helped to pay for the initial infrastructures.

• 2022

  Winner of the "Digital Innovation" Handitech Trophy edition 2022

  Our pitch in front of an audience of at least 100 people, a first for us! We are extremely proud to have won this national competition that brings together the most talented HandiTechs.

• 2023

  Participation in the CESER awards of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region

  The CESER awards bring together the most beautiful initiatives in the AuRA region. We were not winners, but we nevertheless encountered great projects.

• 2024

  Incubation at the INRIA Startup Studio

  This stage is crucial for Pictalk AAC. It marks the beginning of our full-time work on the project, with the goal of creating a sustainable economic model for people with cognitive disabilities.
