How to install synthetic voices?

The Pictalk AAC applications are cross-platform and work via your internet browser. Synthetic voices are managed by your operating system, such as Android, iOS, Windows, etc. For security reasons, we cannot install voices for you. Here is an article showing you how to install them.

By installing synthetic voices, you can use the following applications for free:

Android

Some Android devices come without any synthetic voices. Rest assured, there are many ways to get free synthetic voices.

Installing voices on Samsung devices

Link to the application to install:

Once the app is installed, go to your settings:

Click on "Text-to-speech output":

You should see this screen:

Check these settings:

  • The language selected is French or your preferred language
  • The speech rate and pitch suit you
  • Click on "Listen" to verify proper operation

If the default language is not what you want, click the "Language" button and find your language. If you do not find it, continue with the tutorial.

If the language or voice does not suit you

Click on the gear icon to customize. You should see this screen:

Check if your language is in the list. If not, click on: "Install voice data" and select your language.

For other Android devices

Make sure you have the Google Text-to-Speech app installed. This app includes many languages and default voices.

Here is its logo:

Look for something similar to "synthesis" or "voice" in your settings to access the speech synthesis settings. You should see a screen similar to this.

If not, you can contact our team or Google support.

Notice that the "Preferred engine" is Google. Check that the language is correct.

If you do not have the language

Click on the gear icon. You should see this menu:

Click on "Install voice data" to search for your language. For example, we searched for "French":
