Accessibility

Last updated: 3 November 2026

Pictalk Speech Made Easy is committed to making its website pictalk.org and its app Pictalk Buddy accessible to everyone, in particular to people with disabilities, who are at the heart of our mission.

Compliance status

Our reference is level AA of the WCAG 2.1 guidelines, which are included in the European standard EN 301 549.

  • pictalk.org website: partially compliant. The major issues found in the audit have been fixed; some minor non-compliances remain and are listed below.
  • Pictalk Buddy app (web, iOS, Android): partially compliant. Fixes are in progress.

Test results

An internal audit was carried out on 3 November 2026:

  • on the website, 14 representative pages in desktop and mobile versions (home, Pictalk Buddy, pricing, Pro offer, AAC guides, support us, contact, privacy policy…);
  • in the app, the screens available without an account, through automated tests and keyboard walkthroughs, and the signed-in screens through code review.

Tools used: axe-core, Playwright, keyboard navigation, and tests for 200 % zoom, 320 px display and text spacing.

Non-accessible content

On the website

  • Some images have alternative text in English or text that is not very descriptive.
  • The language selector on desktop does not say whether it is open or closed, and language names are not marked up in their own language.
  • The privacy policy tabs are not announced correctly by screen readers, and the page scrolls slightly sideways on small screens.
  • The carousel on the Pictalk Buddy page shows inactive slides with low contrast.
  • The stars in reviews are distinguished only by colour.
  • Some animations on the home page have no pause button. They stop if the "reduce motion" setting is turned on on your device.
  • Some heading levels are skipped, and some text is cut off when text spacing is increased.
  • Some links that open a new tab do not say so.

In the Pictalk Buddy app

  • Choosing between a monthly and a yearly subscription cannot be done with the keyboard.
  • Screen zoom is blocked and text size does not increase everywhere.
  • Many icon buttons have no name that a screen reader can read.
  • The orange of the main buttons does not have enough contrast with the white text.
  • The sequence player starts audio and moves to the next step with no way to pause.
  • The status of calendar events (cancelled, finished, in progress) is not announced by screen readers.
  • The presentation videos have no subtitles.
  • Several input fields have no label, and errors are not linked to their fields.
  • On iPhone, the app only works in portrait mode.

What already works: communication boards can be used with a keyboard and a screen reader, dialogs manage focus correctly, and the app follows your device settings for reduced motion and high contrast.
